We all know that getting any sort of cosmetic procedure isn’t cheap and, in fact, can cost a fortune. Many women, however, try to go around this by going out of the country in order to have their cosmetic procedures done. They’re not alone. There are some companies which estimate that hundreds of women go abroad every year in order to get an inexpensive augmentation done. And some places actually promote the fact that their surgeons are inexpensive. This is called medical tourism. But is going to a foreign place to get your procedure done a good idea?
The Cost
It can sound intriguing to go to a place that is foreign in order to have an augmentation done. Cosmetic procedures can cost thousands of dollars, and not everyone has that type of money sitting in their bank account. This is why going into another nation and only having to pay hundreds of dollars seems like a great idea. After all, if you can get breast enlargement with a much smaller price tag, shouldn’t you do it?
The Real Cost
Not necessarily. Some women who go abroad in order to have a cheaper procedure completed because they can’t afford to have it done in the United States have horror stores that have to be heard to be believed. Some of them come back fighting one form of an infection or another, and many come back with breast surgery scars that are so bad that they have to pay to have the procedure done all over again. So not only did they pay to have it done abroad, they also have to pay to have it fixed, more than doubling their cost and leaving them with a lifetime of emotional, and often physical, scars. While this isn’t always the case, a quick online search for horror stories of this type is enough to reveal the potential problems in the industry.
Is it possible to go abroad to have an augmentation done? Absolutely. But it is definitely not advisable. In some cases, the surgeons in these countries have very little medical training, and are not able to accurately do any type of a procedure, especially procedures that require finesse and a lot of talent to accomplish well. If you’re going abroad and are contemplating a tattoo, you’ll likely be just fine. But if you’re going abroad and are thinking about implants, you may want to rethink your decision before going through with it or with any type of cosmetic procedure.
