Taking Time Off for Breast Surgery

General

One thing that most women don’t realize is that while having an augmentation procedure done for them is a personal and important thing, many others do not feel that way. There are some who feel like having this kind of a procedure done is unnecessary, and there are those who believe that anyone who gets this type of operation done should not be able to take any time off from work because it is not a necessity. When you’re contemplating whether or not this is the right choice for you, it is a good idea to think about your time off.

Recovering

In order to recover from the procedure, you are going to need a bit of time. Most surgeons estimate at least two to three weeks to recover, if not longer. This can be a long time to be away from a job, so you are going to need to make some plans prior to having it done. If you have it done and do not make plans with your boss ahead of time, you may be looking at the case of the disappearing job.

Taking Time Off

If you can accrue time off, it is a good idea to accrue a great deal of it. Keep adding the time off up and soon you’ll have three weeks worth of time to play with. Explain to your boss that you are going to need to take that time off all at once so that you can recover from breast enlargement. Legally you are not required to tell them much more than the basics, and you may want to keep the request simple and very neat. Ask for the time off as far in advance as you can, preferably giving at least a few months notice since you will be taking so much time off consecutively.

If you do not accrue time, or you are not able to save enough time to meet the recovery demands of your breast surgery, you should speak with your boss before making any plans. Explain to him that you are going to be having surgery and that you are going to require a certain amount of time off for recovery. Many managers and bosses will be willing to work with you as long as you make it clear, from an early date, that you will need time off. Remember: the sooner you talk to bosses, the easier it will be to get time off.
