Surgery

For most people, the stories on the news about post infection problems in today’s hospitals sound like something from a bad science fiction movie. A person can go from being perfectly fine after a routine surgery, or even a cosmetic procedure, and suddenly find themselves fighting for their life due to a bad infection like staph or a similar bacteria. Since hospitals use such strong cleaners and so many different antibiotics, more and more bugs are becoming resistant to conventional treatments. While there is no greater or lesser chance that you could contract a post surgery infection after your breast augmentation surgery, there are a few things you can do to lower the chances of any problems occurring.

First, you want to make sure that you follow the instructions laid out by your doctor in full for your recovery. Many times, infections come from patients who don’t keep their prone areas as clean as they should. Often times, caring for wounds is a long and trying process, but if you want to ward off any chance of a problem down the road, you need to take all of the steps your doctor asked you to.

Keep track of the amount of pain you are in. If you notice a few days after you have come home from the hospital that the amount of pain you are in is getting worse, don’t wait, contact your doctor right away and let them know. Pain from surgery should almost always get progressively better, and if it isn’t, your doctor will tell you what to expect long before you leave the hospital. No one can tell what is going on with your body better than you, so if you are getting breast augmentation surgery, it is up to you to gauge the level of pain you are feeling.

If you have been given a bottle of antibiotics, it is extremely important that you take all of the pills you were given, even if that means taking pills for a week after the pain associated with your surgery is gone. Bugs can become resilient to antibiotic medication when people stop taking their prescription half way through. This allows the bugs to reorganize and fight back. If you are getting breast enhancement surgery, always make sure you finish off all of the pills you were given.

Finally, if you are recovering from breast enlargement surgery, keep an eye on your temperature. Along with an increase in pain, you will also get a fever if you have an infection due to your surgery. Even if you are feeling fine, it is a good idea to keep an eye on your temperature in the days following any kind of surgical procedure.
